KEY WEST THEATER LAUNCHES "LIVING MUSIC" PROGRAM FOCUSING ON MUSIC EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS
Updated: May 17, 2019
Key West Theater Announces New Music Program Benefiting Students of the Lower Keys
On May 17th Key West Theater will be holding a pilot session for their new music program, LivingMusic, to include 120 students between fourth and sixth grades from the Lower Keys community. The preliminary session on May 17th will feature Mister G, a Latin Grammy award winner, with the intent to introduce the prospective schools to the “field trip” style sessions. Subsequent sessions will begin in the 2019-2020 school year, focusing on different genres, elements and aspects of music and will be free of charge to all of the students involved, who will range from first to twelfth grade children.
LivingMusic is designed to enhance current in-school music education through live performance, songwriting and interactive activities with the intent to bridge the gap between distinguished musicians and students. Each session will range from 75 to 90 minutes and will be catered to specific age groups. By using methods such as call and response and movement each student will play an integral part in their session. As LivingMusic grows and transforms there will be opportunities for students to participate in workshops, element-specific classes and internships.
LivingMusic is free of charge to all students in the Lower Keys community! The Key West Theater & Community Stage non-profit is seeking donors and sponsors to assist with transportation, instructor pay, equipment and more. Music programs are constantly in danger of being cut due to school budgets as it is happening more and more in our own local schools. It has been proven that music education stimulates brain development, enhances fine motor skills, and gives children a more broad vocabulary among many other positive developmental attributes. LivingMusic will ensure that each child in the Lower Keys community has the chance to explore music in a fun and progressive way by educating, inspiring and uniting.
If you are a prospective donor, parent or teacher who would like to attend the May 17th pilot session at 10am, please RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org
