The Key West Theater in partnership with their new educational LivingMusic program bring to you a free family concert with Latin Grammy Award winner, Mister G, on May 17th at 7pm.

Ben Gundersheimer (MISTER G) is an award-winning artist, author, activist, and educator. Hailed as “a bilingual rock star” by the Washington Post, he tours internationally playing everywhere from Lollapalooza and Lincoln Center to climate change rallies on Capitol Hill. His spirited bilingual performances aim to help children see each other across borders and foster cross-cultural connections.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ben Gundersheimer is a graduate of Amherst College and the recipient of the first songwriting scholarship awarded by the Berklee College of Music. For his Master’s of Education thesis, Ben created a curriculum that incorporated songwriting as a learning tool. Dubbed ‘Mister G by his 4th grade students, he began writing the songs that would comprise his debut family album while working as a classroom teacher. More than a decade later, Ben has released ten albums as 'Mister G' and received numerous accolades. He tours internationally headlining performing arts centers, festivals, and theaters, performing in both English and Spanish.

This performance is in partnership with the Key West Theater's new LivingMusic program, benefiting Lower Keys students providing educational music sessions free of charge. LivingMusic is designed to enhance current in-school music education through live performance, songwriting and interactive activities with the intent to bridge the gap between distinguished musicians and students. Each session will range from 75 to 90 minutes and will be catered to specific age groups. By using methods such as call and response and movement each student will play an integral part in their session. As LivingMusic grows and transforms there will be opportunities for students to participate in workshops, element-specific classes and internships. LivingMusic will ensure that each child in the Lower Keys community has the chance to explore music in a fun and progressive way by educating, inspiring and uniting.

LivingMusic is free of charge to all students in the Lower Keys community! The Key West Theater & Community Stage non-profit is seeking donors and sponsors to assist with transportation, instructor pay, equipment and more. Music programs are constantly in danger of being cut due to school budgets as it is happening more and more in our own local schools. It has been proven that music education stimulates brain development, enhances fine motor skills, and gives children a more broad vocabulary among many other positive developmental attributes. LivingMusic will ensure that each child in the Lower Keys community has the chance to explore music in a fun and progressive way by educating, inspiring and uniting.
